Oum El Dounia (“Mother of the World” in Arabic) opened its first store in 2004, in the heart of Cairo. It is located on the first floor of one of the grand apartments typical of the capital’s downtown, with a balcony overlooking Tahrir Square, at a five-minute walk from the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities.
Very soon after it opened Oum El Dounia became one of the most attractive places in the neighborhood with its nicely decorated interior, high quality crafts, carefully selected and beautifully displayed merchandise, friendly staff, reasonable prices, and book corner with a wide choice of titles about the Middle East.
In the midst of the rush and frenzy of downtown, Oum El Dounia is a welcomed, relaxing stop, where one can discover new things, take a rest, and drink a cool glass of karkadeh.
